The teachers, K through 11, eagerly explored the collection of 100+ children’s books in Spanish. Workshop sessions focused on the power of reading aloud to students with emphasis on the benefits, cross curricula connections, and how to present a powerful classroom read aloud.
The workshop is being hosted by the Sathya Sai School in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. Other local schools have been invited and are participating. A total of 42 teachers are attending. As you will see, the pictures below reflect the high interest and enthusiasm of the teachers as they explore the collection of fiction and non-fiction children’s books. Exploring and teaching with children’s books is a new experience for the teachers since they lack easy access to children’s books in their schools and communities.
It is has been an incredible cross-cultural learning experience for me as I introduce the power and benefits of reading to students of all grade levels to the Ecuadorian teachers. The Sathya Sai School ESL teacher and the school’s directors are serving as my translators since my Spanish is very limited.
Thank you to all that helped to purchased books for this project.

It’s so exciting to see their enthusiastic faces! Wonderful!
